The Clare Hayes Award is presented annually to a Sunderland Co-op employee in recognition of excellence in leadership as demonstrated through their work over the past year on a specific project, activity, or with a team.
The selection criteria consists of the following core attributes:
Demonstrated a collaborative leadership style
(for a specific project, activity or with a team as identified above) Created a positive work environment using appropriate leadership skills Inspired, motivated, mentored and coached others to aid in their development and results Led a project, team or task to outstanding results Demonstrates the values of the Co-op on a daily basis
It is my honour to announce that the fiscal year 2020-21 Clare Hayes Award recipient is… Dave Jarrett!

Dave started with the Co-op in the spring of 2018 in the Agronomy Division. He spent that first spring/summer season learning the Agronomy business and all the details that go along with delivering fertilizer and nursing our various fertilizer and crop protection applicators. Dave’s driving skill, ability to learn, calm demeanor under pressure, and overall positive approach to work and his teammates made him an easy recommendation for the Energy Division in the fall/winter season. If you know Dave, he never turns down an opportunity so when we offered him the chance to learn and contribute to the Energy team, he jumped at it.
Dave quickly caught on and became part of the Energy team as a propane driver. Over the last few years, he has expanded his capabilities and credentials to include such certificates as; Gas Technician 3, Petroleum Mechanic 3, and Petroleum driver amongst others.
Dave is eager to learn and is always willing to help where needed, on and off the truck. He has a creative mind and this has translated into some great ideas being brought forward, developed and implemented, such as; the Technician Incentive Program, creating spreadsheets that reduce data entry errors for daily perpetuals, tracking software for important truck and employee renewal dates, an online fillable credit application, and a final fill spreadsheet to help track real estate property sales. This is to name a few and there are several more in the queue.
Most recently we’ve challenged Dave by adding energy sales to his repertoire. Again, Dave has embraced this opportunity and now splits his time as your trusted Propane Driver and Energy Sales Consultant.
Dave has been a terrific addition to the Energy team and to Sunderland Co-op as a whole. We truly appreciate his willingness and proven ability to dive into something new that will continue to develop his skillset and add an even greater support and contribution to our business.
