Position: Assistant Grain Purchaser
Status: Full-Time
Location: Oakwood Ag Centre

This opportunity offers a competitive compensation package, including attractive base wage, paid vacation, pension plan, bonus eligibility, and company-paid health benefits.


Reporting to the Grain Division Manager, the Assistant Grain Purchaser will generate revenue by proactively purchasing grain from an existing customer base, alongwith acquiring new customers. The Assistant Grain Purchaser will consult regularly with existing and new customers to determine customer needs while developing long-term profitable relationships.

Job Role & Responsibilities
  • Purchase grain for delivery into company facilities and direct delivery markets.
  • Complete all administrative functions related to these purchases including contracts and updates to the grain division manager. 
  • Provide merchandising backup to the Grain Manager. 
  • Be educated and knowledgeable of grain trading policies and current market trends to provide customers with up-to-date market information and establish grain marketing plans for customers 
  • Execute grain contracts from negotiating pricing to coordinating and scheduling on-farm pickups. Promote all business divisions within the company to new and existing customers. 
  • Work with management to develop grain procurement plans. 
  • Acquire new business and maintain current business through regular contact with customers via telephone, email, text, or on-site farm visits. 
  • Assist in the organization, planning and presentation of grain marketing educational programs. 
  • Assist with Agronomy Sales
  • Be a point of contact for grain origination for all Agronomy Sales Consultants 

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years’ experience or related University/College degree specializing in Ag Economics, Marketing or Agri-Business 
  • A solid understanding of the grain market and grain risk management 
  • Basic mathematical skills 
  • Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office 
  • Ability to build professional relationships 
  • Ability to assess business opportunities and negotiate agreements 
  •  Demonstrated planning, problem solving and organizational skills

Requirement:

  • Must have and maintain a valid G driver’s license and a clean driving abstract. 
  • May be required to work extended hours, particularly during peak seasons. 
  •  Occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 35 lbs. 
  •  Requires periods of concentration and attention to detail while completing somewhat routine work in a fast-paced work environment. 
  • Understand, follow, and promote all health & safety, environment policies and procedures of the company. 
  • Other duties as required or assigned.
