Fencing Make-Over Contest

The 2022 Fencing Make-Over Contest is Now Closed - Thank You to All Who Applied!

Congratulations to the Winner of our 2022 Fencing Makeover Contest

Mekayla Hickey of Omemee Ontario!

"Hello, We are the Hickey Family and we are writing to in regards to the Gallagher fencing contest. Firstly, thank you for such a great opportunity, as we are in dire need of new fencing for our cattle. We operate a small generational family farm that consists of beef cattle and hay crop. This past year has been exceptionally difficult for us. On July 10th 2021, cancer took the life of our family and business patriarch Patrick Hickey at the young age of 57. Pat was a beloved husband, father and son. Pat grew up on the farm and even though he worked full time as an OPP officer, his greatest passion was that of farming. Pat played a large part in operating the farm on a daily basis with his uncle and father for many years. Over the many years that Pat lived in the Kawartha Lakes area and worked as a Detective Constable for the Rural Agricultural Crime Team and as an active farmer in our local community he was able to develop and maintain many contacts and relationships that we have been able to rely on during this difficult time. Unfortunately, his uncle passed away and his father, due to Alzheimer's, is unable to participate. As a result of this, we are running this farm to the best of our knowledge, skills and ability. We are working very hard to continue with the farming that Pat had loved so much but we are struggling in certain areas and the biggest being fencing. Our mission is to maintain and to build upon the quality of "Hickey Farms." The new fencing would help us to move our cattle to better pasture safely and securely. As the days have progressed since Pat's passing last July, we feel that we have encountered many obstacles and equipment breakdowns, that require time and money. Hence, fencing had to be put on the back burner. Currently, we are in the midst of hay season, but should be working on fencing as the cattle are ready to be moved to greener pastures, for example they are currently getting their heads stuck in our very old page wire fencing. We recently purchased a large amount of Gallagher fencing supplies from Sunderland Coop Peterborough and are currently working on getting it in running order however, when that is finished there is still a ton of additional fencing to that needs to be done. Winning this contest would be such a godsend and would help us to forage ahead. Thank you for your time and consideration of our application Respectfully, Lisa, Mekayla, Lucas and Owen."
